The ambitious goals set by Nando’s team included enhancing usability by considering the user experience at all times whilst following brand guidelines for increased familiarity and increasing user engagement, encouraging increased knowledge sharing which would allow the retirement of the current email newsletter.  

Project Summary

To support this business objective, Nando’s went out to the market, looking for a new partner to deliver on these objectives and goals, and planned to gauge the selected partner on the ability to deliver the Nando’s Innovation Portal as the “minimal viable product”.

In parallel, Nando’s were in the midst of their global implementation of Office 365. Nando’s did expect any solution or product to help optimise the use and adoption of Office 365 globally. In other words, they very much expected that the new digital workspace and communication portal would be the underpinnings for adopting new and modern ways of working and the modern workplace experience.

Geographically, Nando’s Group were keen to ensure that the selected solution would be able to reach and engage users across 24 countries.



After a comprehensive review of the communication functionality Nando’s group wanted to achieve, that enabled its employees to better engage with the business and each other, across 24 countries.

Atlas “The Intelligent Workspace” solution framework, was quickly assessed to be the right solution to implement, to help achieve Nando’s long term communication and collaboration strategy. This means that Nando’s now have an effective communication framework, for its employees in the following departments to connect seamlessly with; Food, People, Finance, Operations, Supply Chain, Marketing, Legal and Grocery.


Key Features

  • Atlas “External Insights” was connected via the Atlas API to “Shaping Tomorrow”, an Artificial Intelligence based future research platform. This highly specialised intelligent feed was implemented within the Innovation Portal and will be invaluable to us going forward. 
  • “Internal Communications” For Nando’s the requirement of high value content which highlights current innovation and future trends as well as potential blind spots, giving a summarised overview to senior decision makers and strategists in Nando’s is business critical.
  • The Atlas email digest feature was built into the solution, allowing the Innovation Portal manager to create monthly “future innovation” newsletters straight from the portal, based on simple refiners and filtering criteria. This feature simplifies the IPM’s role and saves time, as well as making sharing ‘important business news’ more effective.
  • The newsletter feature is designed and built to drive users back to the Atlas Intelligent Workspace, to increase awareness and adoption of it.
