Benenden Health's purpose is to join people together to help pay for medical care when they might need it. There are over 800,000 members and these numbers are growing with a vision is to be, the UK’s leading healthcare community.
With a relatively small number of staff to manage a large membership and provide award winning services across the consumer and business healthcare products, a cloud strategy was necessary for Benenden Health to become more efficient at providing the healthcare services, that could also meet business aspirations and objectives. It was a priority object to meet the highest standards for data security, compliance and access control for the healthcare sector.
The challenge initially was to enable the Benenden Health staff to communicate and collaborate more effectively across the organisation, this was achieved by implementing Skype for Business for two-way communications and instant messaging. To meet the collaboration and knowledge management requirements, documents were migrated to SharePoint Online. This was followed by migrating the email boxes to Office 365 Exchange Online.
Microsoft Azure was identified as the infrastructure platform to host Benenden Health business systems. The migrations, technical planning and implementations were led ClearPeople's security, governance and infrastructure management services teams and these platforms have been supported by ClearPeople’s Managed Services.
There have been many significant outcomes and advantages for Benenden Health as a result of rolling out Office 365 and Microsoft Azure, including the cost benefits of moving away from traditional in-house data centres. The integrity of data has been enhanced, also data security and access controls now meet current regulatory and compliance standards, at the same time as helping staff work more effectively with all the advantages of Office 365 and Microsoft Azure.
