The Vision

London Luton Airport (LLA) sought an exemplary intranet platform to ensure better staff engagement, which aids retention and lowers the cost of recruitment and on-boarding.

Not previously having had an intranet solution, London Luton Airport were facing a major challenge in keeping staff informed and up-to-date. A companywide survey had identified that LLA employees felt improvements needed to be made in the way the organisation communicated important updates internally. Due to the operational parameters it was not always possible to engage with all staff in open discussion.

Something needed to change. LLA’s “One Terminal, One Team” strategy was published following the staff survey and highlighted the need to improve employees’ perceptions of their workplace experience and organisational processes. LLA therefore commissioned a purpose-built intranet platform to enable the airport to communicate with their colleagues in a timely manner, no matter what shift they are working and accessible from whichever device they choose to use.

The new solution needed to: 

  • Improve internal communication and keep staff informed, ensuring there is no miscommunication
  • Improve staff’s workplace experience and perception of LLA
  • Provide transparency
  • Be available to all employees at all times, with differing levels of IT experience
  • Provide access to staff directory, company policies, online procedures, payroll and holiday booking management
  • Be relevant at a departmental level
  • Be future-proof, allowing for further requirements around document management, CRM, project management, data warehousing and business intelligence

The Solution

We collaborated with London Luton Airport on first delivering our intranet solution, and then enhancing it with bespoke features that specifically fit LLA’s objectives. The intranet empowers employees with the tools and resources to engage more effectively with their workplace. Following in-depth discovery workshops where we captured LLA’s business requirements, we worked with their Marketing and HR team to design the intranet in line with their company branding, giving it a look and feel that reflects their company culture that their staff can relate to.

We delivered the intranet on-premises with some important key advantages such as analytics, responsive UI experience on mobile devices, news carousel, version control and a people news web part.

The Results

London Luton Airport have an engaging intranet that allows their employees to feel part of a collective, providing them with timely information and ultimately supporting the organisation’s vision of creating a “Great Place to Work.” By having their own intranet, LLA have massively improved internal communication and reduced the amount of manual paperwork required for certain business processes.

Departments now have their own area with specific content relevant for their teams, and they are able to announce vital information to all concerned in just a few clicks. During the implementation of the build, each department nominated “champions” for the intranet who were engaged throughout. This has been a huge help in getting departmental pages ready and understanding how to maintain them to ensure the information is clear, concise and relevant.
