An enhanced knowledge management intranet for a global law firm. HFW wanted to create a new ‘Holmanet’, an engaging intranet platform that was welcoming to all users with relevant and useful information displayed in a visually compelling setting that provides the tools and functionality to increase staff effectiveness in their day-to-day activities.

Project Summary

HFW is an international law firm. Established in 1883, it has grown to over 450 lawyers working worldwide and provides a global service 24 hours a day.

After being selected as the preferred intranet and design implementation partner, ClearPeople worked with 3Kites Consulting to consolidate all HFW’s knowledge documents into SharePoint and employed our unique Discovery Framework to advise HFW on the best approach to integrate their new intranet with their other systems; Thomson Elite, their practice management system and Interaction, their CRM.

Following the development of a Proof of Concept to test and prove the integration points, ClearPeople proceeded with the build of the intranet embracing bespoke designs created during the creative brief stage and developed customisations to improve the search experience.


HFW now have an enhanced digital workspace which allows their employees to have quick and easy access to client information, matter data and internal admin data in a single platform rather than spending time in disparate systems searching for this information.

The new solution, built in SharePoint 2013, has seen an increase in adoption through the provision of a stimulating and relevant environment that aligns with user and business needs. The key goal for the project was to improve lawyer efficiency by improving access to know-how, precedents and relevant case law. At the time of project initiation, fee earner access to knowledge resources amounted to 126 document views, 97 searches, and 3,602 page visits. Following the launch of the new system, fee earner access to knowledge resources amounted to 608 document views, 613 searches, and 6,584 page visits.
