The EU General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) comes into play on 25th May 2018.
The Regulation introduces a single legal framework that applies across all EU member states and it marks a huge leap towards a Digital Single Market. Even with the UK leaving the EU, in order to do business with EU member states, we will have to comply with the new data protection compliance obligations.  
The ICO has helpfully published a checklist of 12 steps which businesses can take to prepare for the Regulation coming into force next May.
