The Crown Estate BCSP Case Study Released by Microsoft

ClearPeople’s Big Data Project for The Crown Estate

17/07/2013

Microsoft has just released its Business-Critical SharePoint (BSCP) case study on ClearPeople’s big data project for The Crown Estate.

ClearPeople has used Microsoft SharePoint and Windows Azure to collect, share, and exchange in excess of 1 petabyte (one million gigabytes) of data with energy developers and the public, The Crown Estate is now able to easily and cost effectively provide wind farm data to those who need it.

The Crown Estate BCSP Case Study explains how ClearPeople was able to deliver a fully integrated SharePoint intranet, partner extranet and public front end that allowed The Crown Estate to accept data from over 120 partners, then collate, format and publish the data via Windows Azure to the website – saving approximately 7,500 hours per year compared to the previous manual process, and upwards of £2m in traditional hosting costs.

Nigel Spencer, Head of Information Services at the Crown Estate says: “Working with Microsoft and ClearPeople has been a very positive experience. We plan to use Windows Azure for the new Knowledge Network for marine renewable energy.” The Crown Estate BCSP Case Study explains how ClearPeople and The Crown Estate are looking to launch the Knowledge Network later in 2013.
