Skype for Business Tips

Skype for Business is an instant messaging and video conferring application used for communicating with colleagues in a faster and more personal way. It's included as a part of Office 365 and many of our clients make use of it on a daily basis. What a lot of users don't know is that it's full of features that allow you to get a Skype meeting into your teams calendar's quickly and recall the conversations that matter to you.

Save your IM History with CTRL + S

You need a password to 'that' shared area and ask your manager for it via Skype instant messaging. You then accidentally close the window and re-click your manager's name in Skype hoping to see the conversation from a few minutes before. Instead you’re greeted with a blank conversation box. Uh-oh! By clicking CTRL + S in a conversation window after receiving some valuable information you can save the conversation and view it from your conversation history folder in Outlook straight away.

Record your meetings

Perhaps the most underused feature of Skype for Business is the ability to record your meetings. Not everyone is available for your meetings but your deadline isn’t budging. Get the meeting in the diary and whoever can turn up will benefit, and whoever can’t attend will catch up without having to drag everyone back into a room! To record a meeting, click on “…” in the meeting window and select “Start Recording”.

Organise a meeting from Outlook

Some Digital Dinosaurs out there still start their Skype meetings by making a Skype conversation, adding the people they want in it and then turning it into a video call. That’s way more effort than is actually necessary, especially since integration with Office 365 is so seamless Outlook could take all that kerfuffle out of the process. In your Outlook Calendar, select the “New Skype Meeting” button, and a calendar invite with all the Skype details (e.g. link to the conference group) will be included in the invite. All you have to do is add the attendees to the invite and then send!
